Unlike most other magical practices chaos magic is not a spiritual path. Using the maxim 'Nothing is true, everything is permitted", chaos magicians emphasize pragmatic techniques and observable results in the world as it is directly experienced as a form of sorcery. Its aim is to achieve states of consciousness or 'gnosis'. Chaos magic has acquired a certain notoriety for being sinister and even Satanic. This maybe because it rejects spiritual elements in its practices.
Chaos magic may be summed up as, avoidance of any form of dogmatism, focus on personal experience, the deconditioning of the self by modifying and discarding beliefs and "ego-fiction." It is an eclectic and diverse approach, choosing from themes as wide apart as science fiction or tantrism, or adopting the beliefs of a spiritual system if they are thought to serve a useful function. The overall aim is to achieve gnosis as a form of inner knowledge.
